What to get someone who's always cold

We all know that person. The thermostat reads 70 and they are freezing. Well, winter is coming and they need your help.

My best friend is always cold. The minute summer warmth starts to wane and the temperature dips below 80 she starts fretting about the impending cold. Unlike me, she is perfectly happy on a steamy Midwestern summer day. I swear we are made differently.
"Honestly, cold weather is hell for me since I'm chilled all the time anyway. I appreciate having friends who give me gifts to keep me warm."
-Rachel
Perpetually chilled bestie

Because I know this about her and love her despite (because of?) her perpetually chilled state, I’ve made it a tradition to give her a cozy gift every year for her late fall birthday. I love seeing her wear and use these gifts throughout the year to make life a little cozier, snugglier and well, warmer.

This gift guide is dedicated to my best friend and others like her who need a little help staying warm. The gifts in this guide will help reduce their cold-related misery and add some warmth—literal and figurative—to their lives. Many are perfect on their own, but gifting several together would make for a perfect themed gift basket.

Best gifts for keeping warm at home

The most obvious gift for someone who’s cold is something they can put on to get warmer. These gifts will majorly increase the cozy factor at home. For items designed to be worn outside, check out these suggestions below. All items come highly rated.

My bestie says the fleece-lined leggings are a must-have for the cooler months. Look good while staying warm? Yes, please. While the wearable blanket hoodie sweatshirt may not make it to any fashion runways, we could not pass it up with those incredible reviews!

Make the outdoors a little less...cold

When your house or apartment already feels cold, braving the frigid weather outside can feel like misery for our cold-blooded friends. Good quality outdoor apparel is key and can actually help your loved one enjoy their time outside instead of dread it.

For a fantastic comprehensive online and in-person outdoor apparel shopping experience, we highly recommend Active Endeavors. They have several locations in Iowa and sell their items online as well.

For those who prefer shopping with Amazon, we have found items that will warm your loved one and are backed with excellent reviews.

Crank that heat up! Using technology to warm up

Many say better living through science and innovation, right? Well, electric-warmed clothing may do just that. These items are battery powered and are sure to make winter walks, camping, outdoor sports and campfire time a lot more enjoyable. I’ve given my bestie the rechargeable hand warmers and scarf. She uses both on her daily works and says the hand warmers are especially a game changer.

Settling in and getting cozy at home helps us embrace the colder temps.

Gifts to make home feel warmer and cozier

There is something about soft, warm fabrics that make everything better. We’ve chosen several blankets that would be cuddly additions to any home. Two blankets are electric and heated while the third is plush and cozy in its own right.

To fight cold drafts, check out the space heater we discovered with fabulous ratings. For those who are cold at work or in their home office, the heated floor mat is a must. I bought this electric floor mat for my husband when he worked at home during Covid. He was stuck in our make-shift basement office and kept complaining about cold feet. This mat made a huge difference in his comfort and fit in well with our desk and flooring.

What is hygge? How and why we should embrace the snugglier side of life

I keep mentioning the word ‘cozy.’ While most people have a concept of cozy, the Danes have become experts on the topic.

Hygge, pronounced “hoo-ga,” is a Danish word that refers to embracing coziness or contentment, particularly in the little things in life. This could include a lazy afternoon at home with friends, a warm cup of coffee, or a soft blanket. In the past decade, this concept has increasingly gained popularity in the United States, particularly during Covid when everyone was stuck at home.

For my best friend, embracing hygge transformed her atttidue about the colder, darker months. While she still prefers those sweltering summer days and nights, she now looks forward to pulling out her electric blanket, lovely pine-scented candles, and fuzzy socks. All of these cozy items create a vibe in a home that feels welcoming, homey and well, comforting.

I am laughing with you, not at you

I mean, we have to have a little fun with our chilly friends. These gifts will make them smile AND keep them warm. Double win.

Final thoughts on keeping your cold friends warm

When your friend or loved one runs cold, giving them the gift of warmth can be the perfect present. Not only does it make them more comfortable, but it can help them actually enjoy the colder months instead of dread them. With many options to choose from in our gift guide, these presents could make a perfect themed gift basket or gift bag of goodies to brighten their mood and warm their heart.
